Why Take Fine Arts?
A Fine Arts Education has many benefits for students and parents to consider. You may choose any endorsement for graduation and still be a part of the Arts in DPISD. Remember, a Fine Arts Credit is necessary for graduation.
Most schedules will consist of a Math, English, Science and Social Studies in your freshman year. This allows for 3 additional courses to take. Those three slots can be filled in various ways: Fine Arts, Language Other Than English, Athletics, CTE and AVID.
It is important to take your Fine Arts Credit your freshmen year, especially if it is a place that has felt like home to you in your junior high career. Art, Band, Choir, Dance, Orchestra and Theatre are great additions to have as a part of your high school experience. They show a well-rounded education for your college resume and scholarship applications.
Texas schools with more students in fine arts classes have:
- better academic ratings
- fewer discipline problems
- higher attendance rates
